SHareCon 2021?

We are currently making tentative plans for SHareCon 2021, our Starsky and Hutch Slash Con. There is so much planning when throwing a con, and planning a con during a pandemic -- yeah, that adds "extra" to the sauce.

First thing we need to know: attendance. Normally we have around 50 people. In the space we have, that's cozy comfortable. But what happens if we have only 40? Or 25? Or 15? Besides enjoying extra breathing room, at a certain level of attendance, it wouldn't make sense, financially. (Fortunately, we have a virtual SHareCon on Facebook already set up and are making arrangements for other online venues!)

You should be aware that currently, under the county's covid restrictions, indoor gatherings are limited to only 10 people, and that includes conventions. The mask mandate would have to be observed any time we step outside the con space. Obviously, the limited number of people allowed would have to change to allow us to have a con.

Survey choices are simple: definitely yes, I'm coming, definitely no, I'm not, or a definite maybe. We are asking for your fan name and email address so we can eliminate duplicates or mistakes. No one will have access to this information but Flamingo and Cyanne. The survey will be available for a limited time but why wait!

We know it's impossible to predict what might happen 6 weeks from now, never mind 6 months, but we've got to explore what's possible. Until we have a better idea of how many are comfortable making tentative plans to attend, it's hard to move forward. Hence, this survey:

Once the survey is completed, we can start talking about all the other fun stuff like panels, vid shows, art shows, etc.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Deadlines: award nominations, SHareCon zine: August 15

We extended our deadline for the Paula Wilshe and Marian Kelly nominations to August 15. So for all of you last minute types like me, this is very close to the last minute!!! Get your nominations in! Remember, if you haven't nominated your fav new writer, or fav established writer, story, vidder, vid, artist and art, and you see it on the nominations list, go ahead and nominate again. Final voting will come down to the creators and works with the most nominations. Yours counts! Don't delay.

Nominations for the 2018 Paula Wilshe Award and the Marian Kelly Hall of Fame Awards

It's that time, folks! :)

If you're not familiar with the awards, a quick primer:

The PWA is in memory of Paula Wilshe, a fanfic author and zine publisher who made a special effort to work with and encourage writers, especially fledgling ones. In her honor, the award is presented biennially to a new author in the S&H fandom.

The MKA are in memory of Marian Kelly, aka Katherine Robertson, a 'Founding Mother' of the S&H fandom. She was a prolific author, artist, and active participant in fan conventions. The awards recognize excellence in various fanwork categories—writing, vidding, art—as well their creators.

Details on eligibility and the nomination process can be found on the SHareCon website Awards page, but a few things of note:

- All fans are encouraged to nominate/vote. You do NOT have to be attending the con to participate.*

- Right now we are in the nomination period, which is akin to voting in a primary election in that you can nominate more than one person (or fanwork) for each category. The nomination period ends on July 31st.

- The top ten nominees in each category will become the finalists in the 'general election.' At that point, you will cast one vote only for each category.

A list of the nominees so far can be found here: PWA | MKA

We have such a wealth of wonderful fic, vids, art, and other fanworks in the Starsky and Hutch fandom. It's a treasure trove that goes back many years and is still growing. Nominations let creators know that their efforts are appreciated. If you enjoy the fanworks (and of course you do!), I hope you will take a few minutes to participate in the awards process. Spread the joy!

Alright, enough of me prattling. Go to the Awards page, read the instructions carefully, then fill out the survey. Thank you!

* You don't have to attend the con... but it'd be really, really awesome if you did! All the details are at the SHareCon website; join the Facebook group or the Google Groups mailing list for updates.

Good news! SHareCon registration is open!

Forgive the double posts, but that previous registration announcement was the unedited post. Editing helps! Here's the correct post:

This announcement is short and sweet. SHareCon registration is open. The earlier you register, the cheaper it is. Attending rates go up on June 2nd and again on August 26th. Sign up now and save! (Does this sound like an infomercial? Is it working? Good!)

The hotel is also ready to accept room reservations for SHareCon. The hotel page on the SHareCon website has details about the hotel location, room types, rates, and a link to the Homewood Suites by Hilton Baltimore-BWI Airport's custom SHareCon reservation page. If you make reservations through an internet site or an 800 number, the con will not get credit for your suite and you will not get the special con rate.

And finally, a reminder that after this announcement, all further updates will be posted to the SHareCon mailing list and the Starsky/Hutch the Original Bromance (slash ship) community on Facebook, so please make sure you are subscribed to one or both of those sources.

Any questions, feel free to ask Flamingo at flamingoslim @ verizon dot net.

SHareCon 2018 hotel selected

Thanks to everyone who participated in our hotel poll. And apologies for forgetting to post the deadline. My bad! We will be holding the con at the Homewood Suites. Homewood received more than two thirds of the vote. As soon as I get the papers signed, the hotel will give us a website link to reserve rooms. We'll be posting more details in the next few days. Start thinking up panel ideas!!!

SHareCon Poll Deadline

I failed to mention in the lengthy postI sent out yesterday, that the poll will only be open until Monday at 9:30 AM eastern time. So, if you're interested in attending SHareCon, please take the poll!

If you are considering coming to SHareCon, please follow the link to answer a quick poll on these two options.

1. The DoubleTree Hotel for the cheaper room rate, the choice of rooms with two beds, a more private meeting space, the ability to enjoy con activities later at night, the onsite restaurant, and the option to bring my pet. I understand the hotel shuttle does not go to the airport, that breakfast is not free, that other food options may be limited or more expensive, and that I might not have a refrigerator in my room.

2. The Homewood Suites for the free breakfast, airport shuttle, spacious suites, and cheaper food options. I understand I will pay more for rooms, that I might not be able to get a room with two beds, that no pets are allowed, and that the official con space will have to shut down at 11:30pm.
The poll also has a place where you can leave an optional comment if you'd like.

SHareCon 2018: Your input is needed!

Apologies for cross posting, but this information is critical. If you have any interest in attending SHareCon 2018. Please read to the end so you can participate in a poll.
___________
We've been hosting SHareCon every other year since 2000, so we're used to negotiating with hotels. This will be our 10th con. We always try to get the best deal we can. We consider our best logistics, transportation, and food costs. This year, the choices haven't been clear cut, so we need your input. After talking to 25 different hotels, we are considering two (in alphabetical order):
